Gail, the planning and templates make your new fence look absolutely spectacular! I am thrilled with and for you! The fence lends a charming aspect to your gorgeous yard. Wonderful and congratulations on such an achievement!!

Oh my gosh Gail! It looks so pretty!! Wow I am super impressed with your jig, that is just brilliant! The dip is so perfect, I love how it gives it personality and character! I am so happy for you! I hope the weather holds so you can get it all up soon! Tell Rodney great job too, I am so glad you have such great help! It's going to look great. I've always loved picket fences, even though a neighbor a reclusive old lady put one up to keep us neighborhood kids out of her yard. The fence is lookin' good!

You have far more talent and energy than this old gal. Can't wait to see the finished product. This is absolutely beautiful. Keeping everything measured perfectly is what separates the Pro's from the amateurs. You and Rodney did a beautiful job. I live on a corner lot, too, and it seems like one has an additional burden to look even better on a corner!

We have so much more "frontage" to share and show off. I would be just as proud and happy I don't love it. You created a great design, and it will serve you for many decades. Congratulations on an immense job, well done! Thank you so very much Heather for your sweet comment.

I can't wait to get back to the job in the coming weeks. But just getting the pickets up so I can see how it's all going to come together makes me smile every time I look out the window!

After explaining the pattern to Rodney, he used a piece of my scrap plywood to draw a jig. As Rodney was measuring for the brackets. We used a ratchet strap to pull the sections together. DIY Picket Fence Template Here is the template jig that Rodney drew up and cut, it helps us keep the pattern consistent among all of the sections.

The plan is to paint it after the chemicals dissipate from the treated wood. Deciding among the myriad of picket fence designs can be a difficult process when you consider the options, but I have a short and uncomplicated guide to picket fence designs that should help ease the burden of a sometimes tedious and overwhelming task! There a few major categories in picket fence designs that you need to choose from. You can make a few small decisions that when are finished will complete your personalized picket fence design.

A picket fence is generally defined as a fence made of spaced uprights with horizontal rails. And even though the definition may seem simple, the style of picket fence designs is a very generalized and multi-faceted category.

In light of such a huge task I have identified the three main areas of a picket fence design that you need to consider. The size and placement choices of the upright boards on a picket fence may seem like subtle differences, but when you compare picket fence designs with different upright sizes and spacing each different design appears to be a different fence entirely. The most traditional upright size and placement style would be skinny uprights that are evenly spaced along the horizontal rails.

You really could get lost in the choices of upright placement and size, but I suggest considering your overall design plan. You should also consider functionality. Are you trying to keep anything from getting in or out of your yard? A couple of years ago, I found myself in the same situation. What I did was drive around town, the older section, and looked pickets. When I found one I liked I would ask the owners if I could trace the pattern.

I was never turned down. My husband was not too happy with the final design, it was time consuming to cut each picket but he did it and I'm happy with it. WHAT to do with picket fence out dated openings? Need help! Just bought the place and there is a cut out under the stai. Any ideas on how to update this wall cut out?

Need help with kitchen wall cut out. I had a picket fence years ago, and for the design, I wanted something that meant something to me and went with our "house in the woods" This design was about half way down the picket I never heard the end of that one Here is a picture of the pickets I made on my front porch railings. They form a heart pattern when they meet.

If you want to make a lot of pickets faster use a router and a straight carbide bit with a bearing on the end. Will require a heavy duty router. Link to nice pickets in this post. Come by the cottage garden and set a spell A suggestion for sparing the husbands out there. How about using precut pickets and then personalizing them with a special do-dad or cut out? It would save alot of time to just have to "improve" on what is previously there rather than start from scratch.

Your garden is beautiful!! Unfortunately, the heart fence picture is too small to be appreciated as it should be. Is there anyway you can post it in a larger scale?

When i make a picket fence, I find the design I want and make a form to cut them out on my router table. You can cut about 1 picket per minute or so. You need to make a master pattern with a jigsaw and sand it. I then use a router bit with a bearing that is the same size as the bit. This bearing will ride along the pattern and the bit will cut the wood to match the pattern. If anyone is interested I could send pictures of a jig and the bit.

Hello madspinner, We wanted something different than the usual that can be commercially bought. I had seen a very wonderful fence on the drive to the hospital my mother was in after her stroke and heart attack. I got out of the car, knocked on his door and asked him about. DH and I wnet to see it a couple of times together, then we both talked to the owner.

It was a design from Family Handyman magazine. Its a spindle type of picket fence. The man told us up front that it was alot of work.
