Try unplugging any peripherals USB printers etc. Also, see if you can find more up-to-date drivers for the hardware components. From experience I know that can be tricky for Fujitsu Siemens.
Finally, if you can get hold of the RTM version of Windows 7, you might find the problem has been fixed for you.
The problem was present on the Beta as well as the RC. Cba to install another version right now. If I can get a definitive answer before I install a purchased copy of Win 7 Final, great. I appreciate your comments everyone, and I realise that it is a clash between the hardware and the RC OS, but it was the same in Beta, so its obviously some kind of incompatibility.
If it was an obvious known problem with a workaround, then fair enough, but I can't be bothered with the hassle of turning devices on and off. I just want to use my pc, which I'm able to do by putting it to sleep.
It wakes up no problem from that. Its the shutdowns it doesnt like. Remember this is a laptop so there are no external devices, and only simple on board sound realtek and graphics intel.
I just thought that maybe that the other threads which mentioned AHCI had something to do with it, and I could make a small change and solve the problem. It always happens right after certain Windows Updates. As soon as I interact with the prompt in some way by clicking a button, pressing a key, etc. If I clicked my user name, it disappears. If I click the arrow next to the Shut Down button, it stays "depressed" and doesn't "pop up" again.
I'm not sure exactly which update it is, because I had to run System Restore and that probably erased the information. This also happened sometime in March, I believe. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 installed.
I've had it for awhile and its been fine. However, today I've ran into a problem. I was using the computer like normal. Then left it on and went to do some errands. I returned and when I went to use the computer I could not get it to work. The screen was in sleep mode which is normal but moving the mouse or hitting a key did nothing.
So I tried restarting it. Then when it got to the login screen it froze as soon as I touched a key. So I tried again. Same issue. Each time I try it freezes at some point during the login. Sometimes I can put in my entire password and hit enter. Then it freezes shortly after. I have no idea what the issue is.
